Surface tension test of plastic film

When printing plastic films, it is important to first ensure that the plastic film has sufficient surface tension, which is related to the fastness of the ink on the film surface. The packaging industry often uses dyne test inks to determine if the plastic substrate has sufficient surface tension to meet the printing, coating, and compounding requirements. In order to avoid ink peeling due to poor adhesion, it is recommended that the printing material be corona treated before printing.

The use of a felt-tip dyne test pen is a very simple and economical way to verify that the printed material meets the printing requirements. The test method is to use a test pen to simply draw a line on the substrate and determine the surface tension of the blue ink on the substrate. The surface tension of the film is greater or less than the tension of the test ink to determine whether the ink line is stable or broken within 3 seconds after the scribing, such as separating into small ink droplets.

The surface of the printing material processed on the part of the surface can also use the test ink to determine whether the treated area is suitable. In order to meet the printing and compounding requirements, the basic requirements for the surface tension value of the material are as follows:

General requirements for material dyne levels:

Printing: printing with solvent ink, requiring 38-42dyne/cm;

Use water-based ink printing, require 46-48dyne/cm;

Coating: Dyne level is between 44-54 dyne/cm depending on the type of coating;

Compound: solvent-based adhesive 46-48dyne/cm;

Water-based adhesive 54-56 dyne/cm.

The most common test range for Dyne pens is 32-56 dyne/cm. In addition, there is a bottle of test ink, and the brush itself is configured to facilitate the entire test. Another option is the Red Dyne Pen, which can be lined with material to determine if the dyne level is above or below 38 dyne.
