China's waste plastics waste is only 20% of the recycling rate

According to the "Outlook Weekly" report, some experts said that the recycling rate of China's waste plastics is only about 20%, and 80% is landfilled and burned. In developed countries, the recycling rate of waste plastics in Germany and Japan reaches 70%.

“Plastic bags are made from petroleum refining,” said Dong Jinshi, deputy chairman of the China Plastics Association Plastics Recycling Specialist Committee. “Our oil resources are precious and non-renewable natural resources. Only 2 tons of oil can make 1 ton of plastic. After throwing it, it is a huge waste of resources."

Discarded garbage bags also formed "white pollution." The plastic bags currently used in the market are mainly made of polyethylene as a raw material, and their natural degradation takes a long time, and some even require more than 100 years. In parks and rivers, discarded plastic bags are everywhere, forming "visual pollution."

Plastic bags are often eaten by wild and marine animals and cause animal deaths. The staff of Dalu Nanhaizi Mule Deer Court in Beijing used to dissect a 4 kg plastic bag in the stomach of a mule deer.

"White pollution" will bring crop reduction. Agricultural plastic film, which is widely used in rural areas in China, cannot be recycled due to the use of ultra-thin plastics. Residual mulch affects the development of crop roots and ultimately results in reduced agricultural production.

In addition, plastic bags that are disposed of in landfills release heavy metals and contaminate groundwater during degradation. Treating plastic bags by burning will cause air pollution...
