New Insulation Label for Longer-Cold Drinks

Du Pont Co introduced a new paper edge label, Coo12goTM. It sandwiches a thin layer of Du Pont's ThermoliteTM between two layers of Du Pont's Teijin MelinexTM polyester film. Thermolite is a non-woven cellulose filled polyester. The top layer of the label is reverse-printed with seven-color flexographic printing (supplied by Printpack). The three layers of material are heat laminated on an ultrasonic device. When the material passes through the device, lamination is performed on the left and right edges of the label to form a 60-inch wide roll. The tube is cut to form a single label and is applied with standard hot melt adhesive on the bottle body.

Currently, this tag has been applied by Trukey Hill Dairy to a 20-ounce, high-density polyethylene ice tea bottle and has completed market testing. Shiobhain Harding, its marketing manager, said, “Because the label looks very similar to a traditional label on the surface, it does not affect the aesthetics and brand image of the entire package. It is crucial that it can provide long products. The freezing period allows the taste of beverage products to be maintained for a longer period of time.” Ice tea from Turkey Hill is cold-filled on Federal Mfg's filling equipment and then sold refrigerated with a 90-day shelf life. A stable refrigerated environment makes Cool2goTM suitable as a Trukey Hill package.
