3D Imaging's newly developed IMD-SPR in-mold injection ink is a single-component solvent-based ink. The ink formulation incorporates a special class of high temperature resistant thermoplastic resin, especially suitable for IMD applications involving PC sheets and resins.

5, ink thinner
IMD-SPR is a higher viscosity ink that should be diluted to the proper viscosity before use. For 4-color and fine-pattern printing, 5-l0% IMD-SPR-425 slow-drying thinner is recommended. For standard four-color printing, use 15-15% IMD-SPR-425 thinner. In the printing process, the control of the viscosity of the ink is very important. Improper dilution (ink viscosity is too high or too low) can produce a "pinhole" effect, which can also cause poor leveling of the ink. When printing fine "phase inversion" graphics, "high viscosity" and "slow drying" are the characteristics that inks must possess. At this point in the IMD-SPR ink system can be introduced 5-15% IMD-SPR-430 slow-drying cream to meet the different printing requirements.
Scraper Use a polyurethane spatula with a Shore hardness of 70-85. The higher the hardness, the better the printing effect on fine lines. The lower the hardness, the more favorable it is to provide "high coverage" of printed products.

7, other additives
(1) Drying
The IMD-SPR ink is dried by the mechanism of solvent evaporation. Under normal conditions, it takes 10-15 minutes for “contact without tackinessâ€. Before injection molding, it is necessary to remove the agent remaining in the print, and “Racy air drying†is not advisable because the method easily brings about the problem of solvent transfer (penetration) (ie, it remains in the printed product. The solvent is infiltrated or transferred to its adjacent substrate). For special drying, hot air drying with a good compressed air facility must be used. We recommend implementing the "two-step drying method" that is:
The first step (initial drying): 80°C, 60 seconds (dry drying on an in-line conveyor belt) or, 80°C, 180 seconds (box drying).
The second step (post-drying): In the range of 75-90 °C, box drying for 1-5 hours, the temperature of the heat-sensitive PC sheet, the temperature can not exceed 80 °C, otherwise there may be deformation. For pure PC resin sheet, the temperature can be raised to 115 °C, which significantly shortens the drying time. In this case, attention must be paid to the "registration" of registration. Inadvertently, it may affect the following operations (including molding, shearing, extrusion, etc.). It should be reminded that if you want to get the best heat resistance in the extrusion process, you must seriously deal with the post-drying. Post-drying will eliminate any residual solvent in the printed product. Residual solvents can create problems associated with "washout" during the extrusion process.
(2) Prepress testing
Prepress testing is the responsibility of all printing manufacturers. We recommend that users use sufficient time for trial printing and evaluation, and check the quality of their substrates (such as surface free energy, etc.) before printing.
