Guizhou University was founded in 1902. It was renamed Guizhou University in October 1950 after the Guizhou University Hall, the provincial Guizhou University, the National Guizhou Agrotechnics College, and the National Guizhou University. In November 1951, Chairman Mao Zedong personally inscribed the name of "Guizhou University". In August 1997, it merged with Guizhou Agricultural College and other institutions.
