World No Tobacco Day: Smoking cessation can be extended for ten years

Since 1989 , the World Health Organization has designated May 31 of each year as World No Tobacco Day, aiming to arouse the international community's emphasis on tobacco harm to human health.

The smoke produced by the ignition of a cigarette contains more than 3,000 toxic chemicals. According to statistics, the incidence of 10 lung cancers per day is increased by 13 times; if 20 cigarettes are smoked every day, the incidence of lung cancer is increased by 20 times; the incidence of 40 lung cancers per day is increased by 65 times. The smoke produced by the ignition of cigarettes contains more than 3,000 kinds of toxic chemicals, the most important of which are nicotine, carbon monoxide, cyanide, various carcinogens, radioisotopes and heavy metal elements present in tobacco tar. Carcinogenic substances produced by tobacco combustion include benzopyrene, nitrosamines, β - naphthylamine, cadmium, radioactive cesium, and the like. There are also cancer-promoting substances such as phenol compounds. The risk of lung cancer in passive smoking caused by non-smokers is 1-2 times higher than that of non-smoking women.

Smoking is one of the most important factors in internationally recognized lung cancer. Smokers who die from lung cancer die about 10 times more than non-smokers. In China, 70%~80% of male lung cancer is caused by smoking, and about 30% of female lung cancer is attributed to smoking and passive smoking. The earlier the age of smoking, the greater the risk of lung cancer. The mortality rate of lung cancer in the 60- year-old is about 100 times higher than that in the 20- year-old.

Lung cancer is one of the most malignant tumors in the world with the highest morbidity and mortality. According to statistics, five patients with malignant tumors, one person died of lung cancer. This situation is even more shocking in the country. According to the latest statistics released in 2012 , lung cancer morbidity and mortality rank first in male tumors, second in female cancer incidence and first in mortality.

87% of lung cancer-related deaths are related to smoking; 21% of deaths from coronary heart disease are related to smoking; 30% of cancer-related deaths are related to smoking; 87% of lung cancer-related deaths are related to smoking   82% of emphysema and death from chronic lung disease are associated with smoking.

Bloodshot or lung cancer signs

Professor Yang Yue from Peking University Cancer Hospital reminded: "Not all lung cancers have cough symptoms, but once the symptoms of blood stasis appear, it is likely to be a sign of lung cancer. It is necessary to pay attention to early medical treatment. High-risk groups with a history of smoking are carried out every year. CT screening can detect early stage lung cancer in the first place."

The age of smoke is directly proportional to the incidence of lung cancer

The incidence of lung cancer in people aged between 60 and 20 years is 100 times higher than that of non-smokers; the incidence of lung cancer in people aged 15 to 25 years is four times higher than that of non-smokers.

High risk population of lung cancer

Smoking more than 20 years, 20 years of age start smoking, smoking more than 20 cigarettes a day are at high risk of lung cancer.

Smoking cessation before the age of 35 can be extended for ten years

January 24, 2013, "New England Journal of Medicine," issued a document, according to a survey of 20 million people in the United States, smokers than never smokers mortality rate three times higher (due to smoking-related cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory systems Disease), life expectancy is 10 years short. However, if you quit smoking before the age of 35 , you can also make up for the 10 years. You can still get back 6 years before you quit smoking before the age of 55 .

Professor Yang Yue of Peking University Cancer Hospital said: After 1-3 years of smoking cessation , the incidence of lung cancer can be reduced by 10% ; after 6 years of smoking cessation, the incidence of lung cancer can be reduced by 50% ; after 10 years of smoking cessation, the incidence of lung cancer can be reduced by 80%. After 15 years of smoking cessation, the likelihood of getting lung cancer is almost equal to that of non-smokers.

Early cancer was found to increase the cure rate and reduce mortality. Pay attention to the science popularization education of lung cancer knowledge. Secondly, the screening of lung cancer was carried out in high-risk groups of lung cancer.
