I recently tried my hand at making some pirate biscuits that were supposed to resemble digestives. While they turned out okay, they ended up being a bit too tempting for me. Once I started eating them, it was hard to stop—just like digestives, they’re incredibly addictive. As a result, I’ve decided to take a break from making these for a while because they’re just a little too good. For this batch, we used a gingerbread cutter, but since my kids aren’t big fans of gingerbread, I wanted to experiment with something new. Here’s how our attempt at pirate biscuits went.
### Ingredients: What You’ll Need to Make Pirate Biscuits
To make these pirate biscuits, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 8 oz (250 g) butter
- 5 oz (140 g) caster sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 9 oz (300 g) wholemeal flour
- ¼ tsp salt
- A tube of black icing
- Fondant icing in various colors
- Decorative balls and stars
### Method: How to Make Pirate Biscuits
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F or Gas Mark 4).
2. Mix the butter, sugar, and egg yolk together.
3. Gradually stir in the flour and salt until you have a smooth dough.
4. Wrap the dough in cling film and chill it in the refrigerator for about half an hour.
5. Roll out the chilled dough to about 5 mm thick and cut out shapes using a cookie cutter. Place the shapes onto greaseproof paper.
6. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes, or until the biscuits turn a light golden brown.
Once the biscuits have cooled, it’s time to get creative with the decorations. I used the same biscuit cutter to cut out shapes from the fondant icing and then piped details using black icing. To add some extra flair, I used a gold ball for the belt buckle and star-shaped candies to decorate the hats.
