Esko, a global leader in packaging production solutions, provides an integrated production front-end workflow environment Scope and Kongsberg XL series of box prototypes for the printing and packaging industries.
Scope workflow
Esko's front-end Scope workflow is an advanced workflow environment that brings together many software products for packaging and commercial printers. Scope contains many functions, from job management, through graphical and structural design, as well as professional production front-end tools, to plate making and production tooling.
(1) DeskPack is an enhanced front-end editing plug-in application that connects Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop users to the Scope environment without exiting the familiar desktop environment. DeskPack imports CAD structures into graphic designs, creates dynamic bar codes, provides trapping and displays individual color separations, including a plate preview. In conjunction with a BackStage server, DeskPack controls the continuous operation of labels and displays package designs in realistic 3D and flat interactions.
(2) PackEdge is a full-featured package prepress software that provides unique technology and dedicated tools for file opening, editing, trapping, accurate color display, and overprint proofing. PackEdge 4.0 supports PDF 1.5, an improved user interface, and the ability to convert Adobe XMP job metadata using desktop applications such as Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Illustrator. BackStageEdit provides all the settings for the PackEdge Professional tool, linking to the BackStage server for background processing and file input and output processing.
(3) ArtiosCAD is a tool for architects to help designers with conceptual design, product development, tool preparation, and realistic 3D models. Corrugated cartons and folding carton designers can accurately position images on the die profile and can display in interactive 3D and page layouts in a variety of ways. ArtiosCAD's plug-in for Adobe Illustrator combines desktop applications with a seamless two-channel structure data exchange.
(4) ColorTone is software that provides output centers that require stable tool settings and can perform color correction and CT modification in the production environment. InkSwitch allows operators to optimize ink usage and edit multi-channel files; FlexoFix is used as an optional filter in ColorTone to improve the image quality of flexographic printing and to enhance process control for flexographic printing.
(5) Plato is a powerful multi-purpose typesetting tool for folding cartons, labels, and flexible packaging. It supports automated workflows, uses CAD page layouts, and allows more interactive impositions through the SmartLayout module. Plato 4.0 supports PDF and XMP and introduces an optimized user interface.
(6) FlexRip is a versatile RIP that includes color management capabilities for consistent and high-quality RIP solutions for output. The new FlexRip 5.2 activates the JDF and sets the output JDF file in combination with various offset ink characteristics. It can also perform screen management ScreenManager, combined with complete control of parameters and transition points, can be combined with a variety of screening technology to create a unique user screening method.
(7) BackStage service is an open and digital workflow solution for highly automated and efficient processing of packaged graphics. BackStage 2.0 runs in an open PDF 1.5 environment, incorporating a new job-oriented interface with extensive system operating parameters and an optimized graphical user interface.
(8) WebCenter is a digital asset management system for packaging design and commercial printing operations in the supply chain. Combined with version control, document history, and security access, it can handle any type of file, including graphical data and job parameters. It can also publish tasks on BackStage through a JDF channel.
Box production and short production workflow
Esko Kongsberg XL series cutting/indentation box prototypes are specially designed for preparing box-like and short-format folding cartons, corrugated cartons, with flexible and extensive tool options. The new MultiCUT tool head can handle materials up to 25mm in thickness. Among them, the Kongsberg XL20 is the smallest model in the folding carton series. Its working area is 1680mm * 1270mm.
