Hi Packaging Doctor,

I run a small business specializing in crafting high-end kitchen cabinets. To safeguard the corners, we use bubble wrap secured with tape. However, we’ve been struggling with the tape itself—it’s a nightmare to peel off and leaves behind a stubborn residue that’s tough to clean. We’re looking for a tape that’s either 25mm or 50mm wide and comes off cleanly without damaging the finish. Could you assist us with this?

Thanks, Martin

Hi Martin,

Choosing the right tape depends on how crucial it is for the tape to come off without a hitch. If ease of removal and no residue are top priorities, I’d recommend Vibac Masking Tape every time. This tape employs a pressure-sensitive, low-tack adhesive, ensuring smooth removal without any sticky aftermath—especially important when working with painted or glazed surfaces.

On the other hand, if you're not keen on masking tape, consider a tape featuring a water-based acrylic adhesive. While this adhesive has a stronger grip and greater durability, it can still be peeled off effortlessly with minimal residue left behind. We carry several types of such tapes, but our Envirotape is particularly popular. It boasts a compact core to reduce cardboard waste and offers an impressive 150 meters of tape per roll (far exceeding the standard 66-meter length), making it more cost-effective.

Of course, if tape isn’t your absolute favorite solution, there are alternatives like edge protection guards that tend to be simpler to apply and remove while offering superior impact protection. Our solid board edge protectors are budget-friendly, starting at just 13p each. For a more polished look combined with extra shock absorption, our foam U-channel protectors fit snugly around delicate edges and start at only 26p per meter.

Best wishes,

The Packaging Doctor
