Terracotta
Warm materials like terracotta tiles are making a strong comeback, replacing the cool, white tones that have dominated interiors recently. Unlike in the 80s, when they were used as borders, today’s terracotta features a natural matte finish and is often used as feature walls in bathrooms or for fireplace cladding, according to Lauren Macer from Sisalla Interior Design.
Cork
You heard it here first — cork is making a big return. Not only does it add warmth and texture to spaces, but it's also perfect for sound absorption in open-plan homes. This eco-friendly material is becoming a favorite among designers looking for both style and function.
Dark Green
Dark green is set to become the new go-to color in interior design, replacing navy and midnight blue. As Lauren Macer explains, dark green creates a cozy Scandinavian backdrop that pairs beautifully with tan leathers, reindeer furs, brass lamps, and natural linen.
Upholstered Bedheads
In 2017, bed designs are shifting dramatically. Upholstered bedheads are replacing traditional timber frames, bringing a touch of luxury to bedroom spaces. Emma Blomfield from an online homewares retailer says this trend has been popular in high-end hotels and celebrity homes for years — now it's finally catching on everywhere.
Escapism
As people seek respite from the digital world, homes with cozy nooks and relaxation spaces are becoming more popular. Think deep sofas with linen slipcovers, oversized love seats, day beds, Icelandic sheepskins, chunky wool rugs, and floor cushions — all designed to bring comfort and calm into everyday life.

Jewel Tones
While pastel pinks and blues are still popular, jewel tones inspired by metals, space, stars, and the cosmos are gaining momentum. According to Nathan + Jac, metallics, raw-cut quartz, Lucite, and opal can add a touch of sparkle and interest to any space.
