China is one of the largest producers and consumers of pesticides globally. With the widespread use of these chemicals in agriculture, the incidence of pesticide poisoning has been on the rise. According to available data, the majority of pesticides enter the human body through various pathways. For organophosphorus pesticides, 84% enter via food, 10% through water, and 6% through air. In contrast, for organochlorine pesticides, 93% enter through food, 6% through water, and only 1% through air. These statistics clearly highlight that food is the primary route through which pesticides are ingested by humans. This emphasizes the urgent need for stricter regulations, better monitoring, and more sustainable agricultural practices to reduce exposure and protect public health. The high percentage of pesticide intake through food also calls for increased consumer awareness and safer food handling practices to minimize risks.
