Relevant prepress document specifications and requirements

The wireless glue binding has the characteristics of fast binding, stable quality, elegant appearance, etc. It is widely used in book binding. However, due to the problem of milling and side glue on the wireless glue book, if you do not pay attention to the specifications, it will be more troublesome in the pre-press production and imposition. In the following, I will discuss the specific operational requirements for production and imposition in conjunction with the glue binding jobs encountered in the work.

First, single-page and cross-page documents

1. The current size of the sample and magazine is 21cm x 28.5cm. No matter what kind of size, in the production of all four sides need to be placed 0.3cm, 0.3cm at the mouth of the mouth set for the rear end of the perfect binding mill, the other three sides for the incision. For single-page documents, the finished product size plus the surrounding incisions and milling openings, the total size of 21.6cm x 29.1cm, it should be noted that do not make two pages in addition to cross-page on an open page (such as Pages 2 and 3), many of the advertising company's production staff, may for reasons of visual intent, particularly like to join together two pages of documents together, but they do not know the standard of printing and binding later, there is no Taking into account the folding requirements in the imposition of the large version, thus increasing the workload of the imposition version. For example, before the printing company, according to the binding method of the specific product, the large version is launched in a folded format. Please note that the two linked pages may not always be connected, so that the layout will be inconvenienced. According to the unfolding sample, the rows should be aligned. If you enter the eight open files or cut the left or right half of the file, this result will inevitably increase the data volume of the imposition file. Assuming that the original small page file is only 60MB, it is now doubled and becomes a 120MB file. Not only increased the working time of the entire layout work, but also increased the time of printing and RIP, greatly reducing the work efficiency.

2. According to the different page content, select suitable software production, and pay attention to the regulatory requirements at the same time, which can improve work efficiency. At present, most users often use software such as Photoshop, PageMaker, QuarkXpress, Fit, Illustrator, FreeHand, and CorelDRAW when producing prints. I believe that as a competent producer, at least one should master graphics, images, and typesetting software, and then according to the different characteristics of these software, according to the specific requirements of various manuscripts, develop a suitable product features before production. The work flow, less detours, get the perfect product with the fastest speed.

1) Photoshop is a powerful image processing software, skilled use of Photoshop software, you can create a very beautiful work, but if you do not according to the specific content of the document, and completely use this software to create documents for printing is a bit far-fetched. If the document contains more black text and vector elements, it should be combined with other graphics and typesetting software to jointly produce documents that meet the printing requirements and are of good quality. Although starting from Photoshop 6.0, the file has the option to include vector data when saving EPS and PDF formats, but it is error-prone during RIP, so it is generally best not to use it. If the production staff insists on creating a file containing text in Photoshop, then note that the color of the black text must be set to 100% black, and in the layer, select "Multiple" in the blend mode so that the black text is pressed on any When the color or the image is on, the background color will not be hollowed out, which is favorable for the multi-color printing registration.

2) For documents with more texts, a unified layout, and more pages, it is more convenient to create them in PageMaker, QuarkXPress, and Fit software. These kinds of software have homepage functions and can be set to different types. Left and right homepages. You can make the same content on the home page, such as the header, page number, etc., and then re-arrange the contents on each page. But notice that the vertical words in PageMaker often run at the time of publishing, and it is difficult to control their position. There are two ways to solve this problem. One is to use horizontal rows and carriage returns to become one word and one line. Use kerning to set the kerning. Another method is to do the text in the graphics software, then turn it into a path, and then put it into PageMaker. In addition, when using PageMaker typesetting on a PC, it is best not to use the Founder font, because the Founder font often appears in the distribution of running words, word drop, cut the word and so on. The file produced in the Fit software is used to output the EPS file in part. In the RIP, you need to set the image search path. Otherwise, the RIP will report the missing image. In the Fit software, you can also turn on the Include image data option under Environment settings, check the Include all images option, and then use part of the published EPS file to already contain all the images. The amount of EPS data will be bigger, but In RIP, you no longer need to set the image search path.

3) For less text, more creative graphics, more active layouts, more convenient to create in Illustrator or CorelDRAW software, but this type of file must be all text before saving or outputting EPS format for imposition Both are converted to paths, otherwise unconverted text parts after RIP will be garbled. In Illustrator, if there are graphics or images that exceed the size of the desired page, you can select all the contents and then group them. Use the rectangular tool to draw a rectangular box, the size of the required page size, and then according to the specific cutting requirements, Adjust the position between the two objects, and then select all the contents, select the mask production command under the object menu to complete the cutting, and finally save the file as EPS format. When the saved EPS file is placed into the imposition software, the file display size is the required size, and then the imposition output can be performed. Files created in CorelDRAW software are even more convenient. You only need to export the EPS file in the output dialog box, select the text to export as a curve, and set the binding box as a page.

4) When there is a spot color in the page, you can select the new spot color channel in the channel palette in Photoshop software, fill in a name in the dialog box that appears, select the appropriate color in the color box, put the required spot color The image or color block is placed on the channel. All the content displayed on the channel is the spot color version of our final printing. Save this file as the EPS format of Photoshop DCS2.0. Select the spot color option in the Save As dialog box. , In the DCS2.0 dialog box DCS option to select a multi-file with color composite on it, you must pay attention to this file in entering the PageMaker make-up output, using color printing to generate PS file. There are also spot color features in Illustrator and CorelDRAW software, as long as the color of a graphic is set as a spot color, and then saved or exported as an EPS file, it can be used for imposition. It is important to note that if the spot color contains a gradient color, use PageMaker to make a make-up, you must also use the color separation when printing, in order to guarantee the gradient effect in the file.

Second, make a note of matters needing attention

1. Before the imposition, all the documents should be sorted into the format accepted by the imposition software (usually TIFF or EPS format is more), and then the relevant pages will be spelled on the large-scale page according to the folding method and specific requirements during binding. When you make a layout, it is easy to use PageMaker or Fit software.

2. Middle page cross-page imposition method

The normal size of the 16-inch wide page is 21.6cm x 29.1cm, the size of the eight-page non-span file is 43.2cm x 29.1cm, and the size of the eight-page spread file is only 42.6cm x 29.1. Cm, because 0.6cm is subtracted from the 43.2cm. If you do not subtract 0.6cm from the milling opening, the images of stapled cross-page documents cannot be connected and it is not beautiful. We often see a lack of content in cross-page file links in some magazines. This is caused by the lack of understanding of the cross-page file creation specifications of the wireless perfect binding method. The actual file size used for the imposition is still the normal sixteen open size, that is, 21.6 cm×29.1 cm, and the bleeding part of the milled part must be released 0.3 cm. The specific file cutting method is shown in Figure 1.

3. Seal 2 and the text of the first page or the last page

Whenever this happens, the side glue, milling mouth, back and other factors must be taken into consideration when making and imposing. Since the binding position of the second seal and the first page of the main text should be blocked by the side glue by 0.5cm, the width of such an 8-open spread document should be reduced by 1cm from the width of the intermediate spread document in the text. This should be done during production. The size of the eight-page spread document was set at 41.6 cm×29.1 cm (instead of 42.6 cm×29.1 cm). In actual imposition, the size of the document in the second seal is 21.3 cm×29.1 cm (A), and the document size in the first page of the text is 21.6 cm×29.1 cm (B); otherwise, the last page and the third seal are also the same. The specific file cutting method is shown in Figure 2.

Third, other matters needing attention

1. When storing images, check whether the color mode is CMYK mode. If it is RGB mode, it must be changed to CMYK mode.

2. When making a document, producers should note that the text, trademarks, and important marks in the document should be located slightly away from the cut and milled holes. Our experience is more than 8mm. Some magazines are beautifully printed, but it is because they have not paid attention to these small things.

3. For samples with a large number of pages, etc., a signature and a trip should be added at the time of imposition so that the binding operator can finish the binding according to the order of the trip.

4. Some inserts have layouts that exceed the size of the original. They require separate imprinting, folding and binding in the sample. Like this special insert, the size of each fold is at least 0.3 cm smaller than the size of the finished product, and the folded insert will not be cut when the binding is cut.
