MirrorMe3D brings 3D printing technology to cosmetic surgery

3D printing technology is rapidly occupying surgical rooms around the world, but there is a 3D printing application in the medical field that we rarely hear about, that is, cosmetic surgery. Although many people regard it as a game for the rich or the entertainment circle, in fact, cosmetic surgery all over the world is a huge industry, and it also helps people who have been destroyed due to various reasons to restore their appearance. Before undergoing cosmetic surgery, these patients often rely on modifications to the photos to determine what their appearance looks like after the final facelift.

New York-based startup MirrorMe3D has teamed up with 3D Systems to create a clear-cut 3D print enhancement model that gives patients a clear understanding of their own cosmetic outcomes before surgery.

We don't have much to say about 3D Systems, it is one of the world's leading companies in the 3D printing industry. MirrorMe3D was founded by Dr. Carrie Stern. Stern is a surgeon from New York who has many years of experience in the cosmetic industry. Stern founded the company to transform the plastic surgery process and the experience of doctors and patients. After all, a single PS photo often makes the patient feel a little uncertain about the result of the plastic surgery, and the doctor is not very prepared in this regard. With the help of 3D printing technology, MirrorMe3D fully solves this problem, enabling patients to see the real self after surgery.

As you can see from the video below, this process is fairly straightforward for experienced 3D printing professionals. The staff first performs a 3D scan of the patient and enters the results into high quality image processing software. The doctor then modifies the digital model according to the surgical plan and then prints it out on a high-quality full-color 3D printer. "These real models provide patients with enough confidence in the consulting device and also provide valuable reference tools for plastic surgeons in the operating room," they said. Specifically, MirrorMe3d will work with 3D Systems' medical center in Colorado, where staff will use the latest Geomagic Studio and Geomagic FreeForm software to create 3D models, which will then be printed on the ProJet 660 full color 3D printer.

Dr. Stern believes in the future of plastic surgery in 3D printing. "It is enough to subvert the rules of the game in the field of cosmetic surgery," she said. “The 3D printed model can alleviate many of the patient's anxiety about the outcome of the procedure and can help the doctor during the procedure.”
