The primary issues identified include an imbalanced pH level and the presence of unqualified azo dyes. These substances can penetrate the skin and potentially lead to health problems. Other common concerns involve inaccurate ingredient labeling, poor color fastness, and significant changes in size after washing.
Several products found to be non-compliant during the inspection include the Fuyixica Holiday Leisure-16 and Holiday Leisure-25 from Beijing Yasheng Room Textiles Co., Ltd. These items had issues with pH levels, washing dimensional change rates, and color fastness. Additionally, the Tai'an Lv Nuo Health Mat produced by Taishan Lvnuo Textile Factory was found to have improper ingredient content and poor washing size stability. Another problematic product was the Ouke Home Textiles Multi-Stripe Jacquard Four-Piece Set from the Beijing branch of Shanghai Ouke Industrial Co., Ltd., which failed in terms of component content, color fastness, and washing dimensional change rate.
If the pH level of bedding is too high or too low, it can irritate the skin and increase the risk of bacterial infections. Azo dyes that release harmful aromatic amines when in prolonged contact with the body can be absorbed through the skin and may accumulate within the body over time, posing long-term health risks.
Many small-scale markets lack proper product identification. According to reports, most bedding products in Beijing are sold in small commodity wholesale markets, supermarkets, and shopping malls. During field visits, it was observed that while most products in shopping malls were properly labeled, some items in smaller supermarkets and markets lacked essential information. In certain cases, packaging only listed the product name and origin, without any clear instructions or product details. In the small commodity market near Lugu, several bedding items had no labels at all, nor did they indicate production or manufacturing locations.
Consumers have also reported that bedding purchased from these markets often feels cheap and loses its softness after washing, with fillings hardening into clumps. Under current regulations, all bedding should come with proper product identification, including details such as ingredients, specifications, washing instructions, and product grade. Products without such labels may contain hazardous materials that could negatively impact health.
