Hong Kong survey said that toy yellow duck plasticizer exceeded 400 times

The 27 products tested by the Hong Kong Consumer Council include bath toys, inflatable dolls and wooden puzzles. The price ranges from 10 yuan per piece (the same amount as Hong Kong dollars) to 600 yuan. The test results show that 16 models contain different levels of plasticizers, 7 of which have plasticizer content exceeding the standard of 0.1% in Europe and the United States, and three of them are shower toys, including two cheaper showers. Yellow duck and a cold pig, as well as another inflatable horse, the plasticizer content is particularly serious, the highest plasticizer content ranging from 28.6% to 37.9%, equivalent to 286 and 379 times the US and EU standard limits . The mechanical and physical safety tests of the Hong Kong Consumer Council have found that nine components are detached or broken, which can easily stab infants and children and have a risk of choking.

There is no legislation in Hong Kong to regulate the plasticizer content of children's toys. The Government is planning to introduce legislation and the relevant Children's Product Safety Bill has been submitted to the Legislative Council. Xu Jingwen, chairman of the Consumer Affairs and Community Relations Group, said that plasticizers are usually added to hard rubber and other materials to improve the elasticity and durability of the materials. Most plasticizers have low acute toxicity in the human body, but long-term intake of plastics. Chemical agents can cause toxic effects on the liver, kidneys and reproduction.

Infants may ingest plasticizers through their mouths because of biting and sucking toys. The Hong Kong Consumer Council reminds parents to teach their children not to put toys in their mouths. Parents should pay attention to the age, instructions and warnings of the products when buying toys. Small parts should not be allowed to reach children under 3 years of age.
