Export packaging must strictly comply with the regulations set by both China and the importing countries. When it comes to wooden packaging, it is mandatory that the wood used is fumigated or treated in accordance with the inspection and quarantine standards established by the Commodity Inspection Bureau. The IPPC logo is typically required on all wooden packaging intended for export. To ensure secure loading, wooden crates made from wooden strips are recommended for container shipments, while wooden pallets can be used to stabilize the cargo. For bulk carriers, large fully enclosed wooden boxes constructed from wooden boards are preferable, as they provide better protection. In addition, using wooden sticks or filling the space with foam can further enhance stability and safety during transit.
An export wooden box is a rigid packaging structure primarily made of wood, usually in a rectangular shape. It serves as one of the most common forms of packaging for transporting goods internationally. These boxes can be categorized into several types, such as standard export wooden boxes, frame-type wooden boxes, and exemption inspection wooden boxes. Wooden packaging is widely used across various industries in China, particularly in light manufacturing and machinery, where its durability and reliability make it an essential choice.
According to the SN/T 0273-93 standard, "Inspection Procedures for Export Goods Packaging Wooden Packaging," the materials used in the construction of these boxes must meet specific criteria. The primary structural components should be made from tree species such as larch, masson pine, Ziyun pine, white pine, or eucalyptus, which have mechanical properties similar to those of hardwood. The moisture content of the main structural parts should not exceed 25%, while the box panels and other components should have a moisture content of no more than 20%.
In terms of material quality, the main force components and box panels must not contain more than five dead knots or live knots within a 1,000 mm length. Any defects such as decay, through cracks, splits, wormholes, mildew, or blunt edges are strictly prohibited.
Regarding craftsmanship, the joints of the box panels must be tightly sealed, and the panels themselves should be flat and free from misalignment. The placement of the wooden studs should be reasonable, and the reinforcement belts must be at least two in number. The printed information, including the commodity inspection code, should be clear and accurate to ensure compliance with international shipping requirements.
