Variety of food packaging design containers are indispensable

[Chinese Packaging Network News] In today's daily life, it's hard to find a product that isn't packaged. Especially in the food industry, packaging design has become diverse and eye-catching, making it an essential factor for market success. Whether you're shopping at a supermarket or browsing online, attractive packaging plays a key role in capturing consumer attention. When it comes to designing food packaging, there are countless styles and materials used. At the mall, you can often see beautifully designed packages displayed on store shelves, catching the eye of shoppers. Upon closer inspection, most of these packages are made from four main materials: plastic, metal, glass, and paper. Do you remember the recent Dragon Boat Festival? Traditional foods like zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) were once sold without much packaging, but now they come in elegant gift boxes, priced from 22 to 95 yuan. This transformation has turned them into high-end, luxurious items, showing how crucial packaging design is in today’s market. When considering the characteristics of food packaging materials, paper bags are known for being the most environmentally friendly option. People born before the 1960s and 1970s may have experienced "low-carbon" living, although it was due to limited resources rather than environmental awareness. As Ms. Wang, a retired woman, recalls, "Back then, almost every family had a basket for vegetables because most goods were sold without packaging. When buying sweets or biscuits, shops would wrap them in small paper bags." This kind of simple yet effective packaging was common in those days. Looking back at the 1970s, the most common packaging was khaki-colored paper bags, with earthy yellow also considered a “happy color” by children. Snacks like candy, cookies, and cakes were often wrapped in triangular paper bags. Mr. Li, who shares similar memories, says, “At that time, people would buy more than a pound of snacks just to admire the salesperson’s wrapping skills. Even a small amount would be neatly folded into a triangular bag.” He also remembers that traditional gifts included fish cakes and sugar, which were wrapped in red paper and tied with straw ropes. Today, such packaging is rare, as people now prefer red envelopes or high-end gift boxes. It’s clear that paper has been widely used in food packaging for a long time, not only for its practicality but also for its eco-friendly nature. Compared to other materials, paper is often the preferred choice when it comes to food packaging. Therefore, paper bags are seen as one of the most sustainable options in food packaging design. The editor of China Packaging Network believes that there are many factors to consider when choosing materials for food packaging, leading to a wide range of options. The next topic will focus on how to make the best choice based on specific needs and goals.
