One of our favorite children’s books is *The Snowman* by Raymond Briggs. We read it every year as part of our advent calendar of books, and it's always a highlight for the whole family. The book is perfect for the twins who are just starting to read because there are no words—so you can create your own story together. It’s a magical experience that sparks their imagination and keeps them engaged.
We wanted to make some snowman ornaments to go along with the book. Since snowmen are such a simple shape, we decided to let the kids create their own decorations after looking at the book. I set out a variety of materials, but then gave them complete freedom to design whatever they wanted. The results were amazing—each one was unique and full of personality.
**Materials Needed To Make The Snowman:**
- Cupcake cases
- Ribbon
- Googly eyes
- Sticky dots
- Orange card
- Black card
The girls jumped right in and had a clear vision of what they wanted to make. They were so focused and creative during the process. Rose, in particular, had her own ideas and added a body to her snowman using pegs for arms and legs. She even declared he was Olaf from *Frozen*. She didn’t use buttons for his face either—instead, she used a row of googly eyes, which made him look even more playful!
Molly, on the other hand, made her snowman look just like the one in the book, with a green felt hat and an orange button for a tangerine nose. Both of them did an incredible job, and it was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed the activity.
Our Christmas tree isn’t up yet, but I’ll take a photo of the snowmen hanging on it once we’re ready. It will be a fun addition to our holiday decor.
