The Snowman Craft for Kids

One of our favorite children's books is *The Snowman* by Raymond Briggs. We read it every year as part of our advent calendar tradition, and it’s a perfect choice for the twins who are just beginning to explore the world of reading. Since the book has no words, it gives us the freedom to create our own story each time we read it, making it a fun and interactive experience. To complement the book, we decided to make some snowman ornaments for the Christmas tree. The simplicity of the snowman shape made it an ideal project for the kids. I laid out the materials, but instead of giving them strict instructions, I let them take the lead and create whatever they imagined. The results were amazing and full of creativity. Here’s what we used: - Cupcake cases - Ribbon - Googly eyes - Sticky dots - Orange card - Black card The girls jumped right in and had a clear vision of what they wanted to make. Rose, in particular, had her own ideas. She added a body using small pegs for arms and legs, and she even named her creation “Olaf” from *Frozen*. Instead of using buttons for his eyes, she went with a row of googly eyes, which gave him a unique and playful look. Molly, on the other hand, created a snowman that closely resembled the one in the book—complete with a green felt hat and an orange button for a nose. It was great to see how each child interpreted the craft in their own way. We haven’t put the tree up yet, but I’ll be sure to take a photo once the ornaments are hanging. It will be a nice touch to have these handmade decorations alongside the traditional ones. If you’re looking for more snowman-themed crafts, here are a few ideas to try: - **Child-Made Bead Ornaments** – Simple and colorful, these are easy for little hands to make. - **Balloon Ice Snowman** – A fun and creative way to build a snowman without any snow. - **Snowman Activities for Kids** – A collection of fun learning and crafting ideas. - **Snowman Pancakes Recipe** – A delicious and festive breakfast idea for the holidays. These projects are not only fun but also a great way to keep kids engaged during the holiday season. Whether you're making decorations, baking treats, or exploring new stories, there's always something magical about snowmen and the joy they bring.
